Renowned Ducks

An NFL Hall of Fame QB(Dan The Man)

Dan Fouts was considered to be one of the greatest QB’s to ever control the Oregon offense. He holds just under 20 passing records while in Eugene. Two of the top records are for passing yards(5995) & total offense(5871).

Not only was Fouts a great college QB he was also a great NFL QB too. He was drafted in the 3rd round in 1973 by the San Diego Chargers. After being drafted, he led the league on 4 separate occasions in passing yards. He was selected to the Pro Bowl 6 times. These numbers also led Founts into the Pro Football Hall of Fame back in 1993.

A Hall of Fame Offensive Lineman

Zimmerman is a former offensive lineman for the Ducks. He didn’t take the traditional route to the NFL though. He was instead selected in the USFL draft in 1984. He went on to play two season for the Los Angeles Express. One of his teammates was Steve Young.

He’s in the same class as Steve Young, Reggie White, Jim Kelly, Marv Levy, & Sid Gillman. All 6 of these players were the only ones that are Pro Football Hall of Famers & also played in the USFL. This player is Gary Zimmerman.

A Defender & Speedster From Oregon

Mel Renfro played both offense & defense at Oregon. He also must have been pretty fast & athletic. He was on the Oregon track team as well. His college specialty was running with the football though. This specialty allowed him All-American honors. His points total at Oregon tallied to just under 24 touchdowns. His numbers at Oregon led him to being conducted into the College Football Hall of Fame nearly 25 years ago. America’s Team decided to pick Renfro in the second round of the NFL draft in 1964. He went on to spend 14 years with the Dallas Cowboys. Instead of playing both sided of the ball like at Oregon, Renfro was strictly on defense his playing days in the NFL. He did have some skills as a special teams player too.

These type stats also convinced the Dallas Cowboys into selecting him in the NFL draft. Dallas was glad to have him all 14 seasons in the NFL. All of these years playing on the defensive side of the ball but also being a force on special teams. His final season in Dallas was certainly a memorable one. The Cowboys taking home the greatest football trophy(Super Bowl) of all. This was Mel Renfro.

Solid College QB to NFL Letdown

Akili Smith is a former 1st round NFL draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals. However, his NFL career didn’t turn out as expected. During his 4 years with the Bengals, Smith never really lived up to his draft status. His NFL time came to an end after the 2005 season.

Jonathan Stewart(current NFL player)

Jonathan Stewart was chosen two years ago by Carolina in the opening round of the draft. He was also a highly touted kid heading into college. He was good enough to enter the NFL draft after his junior season at Oregon. He currently is a big factor in the Panthers running attack.

Freddie Brister is a huge fan of all sports and recommends checking out his Oregon Belt and Cal Belt at his shop.
